Joseph studied at Liverpool Art School and followed this with post-graduate study at St Martin’s School of Art. He has over twelve years experience as a freelance illustrator for a wide variety of clients in advertising, publishing and design and has also completed a range of teaching appointments in the field of art and design.
The artwork created is a celebration of paper and disposable ephemera, reclaimed and re-ordered to create unique artwork. As well as the varieties of paper used, inspiration is gathered from disparate sources such as music, art, fashion and everyday symbols and icons.
Each butterfly is individually hand cut, and most pieces of artwork are supplied in an ash box frame. The work can be seen in galleries across the UK and Australia. As well as their natural beauty, Joseph agrees with the Eastern school of thought that butterflies are the bringers of joy and being the essence of happiness.
