Sarah Maple is an award winning visual artist known for her bold, brave, mischievous and occasionally controversial artworks that challenge notions of identity, religion and the status quo. Much of Maple's inspiration originates from her mixed religious and cultural upbringing. Sarah’s artwork, film and performances have been exhibited internationally at galleries and institutions including Tate Britain, Golden Thread Gallery and Tallin Art Hall. Her recent commissions include The Baltic, New Art Exchange and Sky Arts.

After a wildly successful outing at Jealous East, ‘Sarah Maple’s Sexy Nazi Shark Show’ concludes it’s final leg at Jealous North, in Crouch End. A unique collaboration between Sarah Maple; an artist who unabashedly confronts notions of religion, sexism, stereotypes and the art world itself, along with Kate Bryan; curator, broadcaster, a champion of female artists and voice for anti-elitism in the arts.

“I use myself as a tool to convey a message, much of the time the themes are deeply personal - but I always use humour.”

Sarah Maple, January 2019

Sarah Maple’s exhibition features new work from artist; ‘ ‘Portraits with Fans’ pokes fun at her male counterparts, commenting on the outrageous sexism in the Art World and Art History, while ‘Stop All The Clocks’ and ‘Cut-outs Series’ highlights the pressures on women through the male gaze.

The central work is a ground breaking series of short 10 minute films which fuse art with sitcoms and were recently shown on Sky Arts, which is now free and available for all to view. Exploring the experience of being an artist, Maple wrote the semi-autobiographical piece to highlight the set-backs, dramas and joys of being an artist in the modern art world, which she both loves and despairs at.

Sarah Maple’s ‘Sexy Nazi Shark Show’ Shoreditch was listed on londonist.com as a must see exhibition in October.

“Satirical artist Sarah Maple asked what words generate the most 'click-throughs', and based on those findings has titled her exhibition Nazi Sexy Shark show - it worked on us. Her work lampoons both the wider world and art itself — taking on political hot potatoes such as Trump, Brexit and toxic masculinity. The show also features a fusion of art and the sitcom genre in what is a very meta exhibition.”

“I used to accept a lot at face value but when I discovered feminism it motivated me not only to question the role of women but also the preconceived ideas relating to all things in society.”
